01. DJ Hairy Larry presents Sonny Burgess and The Legenday Pacers playing "Today I Started Loving You Again"
02. Something Blue - Ranger - 29 second spot
Thanks Marty, today we're going to hear a country song performed by a rock and roll band at KASU Bluesday Tuesday.
We would get a lot of top acts at Bluesday Tuesday but the toppest of all was the international touring act, Sonny Burgess and The Legendary Pacers. They would play their Sun hits from the fifties as well as a lot of blues and rock and roll standards. And then, every so often, Sonny would sing a country song.
They wore matching red jackets when they played. Visit the Something Blue website at sbblues.com to see Kern Kennedy and Jim Aldridge dressed for success.
Everyone in the band called Arkansas their home. Sonny lived in Newport and even when he wasn't playing he would come and enjoy the show. He knew all the musicians from around here and they loved getting their pictures taken with Sonny Burgess.
"Blue Suede Shoes" is a part of Rock and Roll history. One night, Sonny and I were sitting in the back of the room enjoying the music when I commented on his red suede shoes. He told me where he bought them and how much they cost. I don't remember the price but they were expensive.
I told him I was glad I was from the sixties instead of the fifties. All I had to do was put on jeans and a tie dye t-shirt and hit the stage barefoot.
Sonny's gone and Kern's gone and now Jim Aldridge is gone too. But we still have their music and that's forever.
Now, here's Sonny Burgess and The Legendary Pacers recorded at KASU Bluesday Tuesday, on December 11, 2012, singing the country standard, "Today I Started Loving You Again".
And thats Sonny Burgess and The Legendary Pacers singing the country standard, "Today I Started Loving You Again", recorded for Something Blue on December 11, 2012. Don't miss Something Blue, Saturday night at 10:00, for more Sonny Burgess, Andrew North, and Little Feat.

DJ Hairy Larry Presents Lisa Ahia Singing My Romance
From The Archives Of Something Blue 2023-09-03
Thanks Marty, today we're going to hear a female vocalist accompanied by a female pianist recorded in 2011 at Bebopalooza!
This Saturday I have a great show featuring top jazz pianists and female vocalists. So I got to thinking about what I have in the archives of Something Blue that will complement the show. And I came up with Lisa Ahia. I love the way she sings the song "My Romance" and I do have several recordings of it. But when I heard the version recorded right here at ASU, on October 15, 2011, I knew I had found what I was looking for. With Joy Sanford accompanying Lisa on piano the resulting recording is very sparse and perfectly rendered. A great song to go with a great show.
