DJ Hairy Larry Presents The Reba Russell Band
From The Archives Of Something Blue February 14, 2021
Thanks Marty, It's great to be here on Arkansas Roots with a song from KASU Bluesday Tuesday.
Reba Russell was definitely a favorite with the Bluesday Tuesday audience and one of my favorites as well. When she was booked for November 13, 2012, she was glad to come and play but she wanted someone on sound so I got recruited. I ran my recording deck and the mix board which isn't as hard as it sounds when the band is as good as the Reba Russell Band.
They played great and I got many good recordings. I'm playing some fantastic contemporary R&B on Something Blue this Saturday so I picked "At Last", the Etta James classic. A great song and a great performance from Reba Russell, here she is now singing "At Last".

DJ Hairy Larry Presents Pansy Hall
From The Archives Of Something Blue February 5, 2023
Thanks Marty, today we're going to hear some southern soul recorded at Soundworks, right here in Jonesboro.
I played with Aaron Love at Blues Fest 91 but we never performed together on a regular basis until I had my juke house at Old Town Nettleton. In 1997 I put together a band featuring Aaron and a female vocalist, Pansy Hall. We had a tight Memphis sound with harmony vocals. We sang Blues and R&B cover songs as well as a few originals.

Thanks Marty. This week on From the Archives of Something Blue we’re hearing contemporary blues recorded at the Arkansas Roots Festival.
Sweet Angel is from Memphis and I had been playing her songs on Something Blue and promoting her act on Delta Boogie for years so when I saw she was booked for the Arkansas Roots Festival I was excited that I would get to hear her sing.
She did not disappoint. There’s no music like live music and yes, experiencing Sweet Angel live is an entirely different experience from listening to her recordings. She’s a fantastic vocalist and songwriter and she also plays a mean saxophone.
Here she is now, Sweet Angel, singing a song she wrote called “I’d Rather Be Myself”.
