DJ Hairy Larry Presents Cottonmouth Playing July You’re A Woman
From The Archives Of Something Blue 2024-03-17
Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear some southern rock from a band that was big in Arkansas in the seventies.
Sometimes I look around for just the right music to play on From The Archives Of Something Blue. And sometimes the music comes to me.
Andy Fulkerson got in touch with KASU with some songs recorded in 1982 and Marty Scarbrough knew immediately that I would be interested. So, thanks to Andy for working with me filling in the details and bringing the Cottonmouth story to life.

DJ Hairy Larry Presents Vincent Holden Playing Tomorrow Night
From The Archives Of Something Blue 2024-02-11
Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear some blues fusion recorded at HairyLarryLand.
I’ve been jamming with Vincent Holden for years, at the Craighead Forest Bandshell, The Arts@311, Fireman’s Campground in Helena, Arkansas, and at HairyLarryLand. He’s a fantastic blues guitarist with deep Arkansas Roots, originally from West Helena but now living in Jonesboro.
I set up a recording session with him after I added the new studio onto the back of my house. I wanted to do all originals and what do you know, he had been writing some songs. We got together on October 7, 2019, for a very productive session. I called on Luke Reed to play drums and I’m on bass.

DJ Hairy Larry Presents PF Flyers Playing Child Of The Wild Blue Yonder
From The Archives Of Something Blue 2024-01-07
Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear a John Hiatt song preformed by an Arkansas rock band at the Johnny Cash Heritage Festival.
Look, I’ve been knowing Scott Snellgrove and Sonny Hunt forever. They both helped with the bandshell project, Scott used to work with Joe Lee at Alley, and I recorded an album at Sonny’s Soundworks studio. They’ve both been playing music in Northeast Arkansas for over 50 years.
I met Grady McGwire and Eddie Ross when PF Flyers was featured at Bluesday Tuesday in Newport. They’re such a great band that I was thrilled to get to record them again on October 17, 2019, at the Johnny Cash Heritage Festival
in Dyess, Arkansas.

Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear a rockabilly star from Sweden playing with The Great Larry Donn.
I had recorded Larry Donn before at Blues Fest so I knew how good he played. My friends Terry Carter and Philip Jackson were playing with him at the VFW and Terry told me that Wildfire Willie from Sweden was going to be at the show. I got permission from Larry Donn to record for Something Blue and the rest, as they say, is history.
It was a long time ago on August 18, 1993, at the VFW in Jonesboro, Arkansas. I was already recording and Wildfire Willie and I were talking in the green room while we listened to the show. Wildfire Willie said, “I can’t believe that I’m in Jonesboro, Arkansas, listening to the great Larry Donn.”

Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear an original country song I recorded at KASU Bluesday Tuesday.
I had been promoting The Salty Dogs on Delta Boogie and Something Blue for several years. Brad Williams sent me their CDs and I was knocked out. I mean how does a band sound progressive and old time country at the same time. Their country sound has a lot of rock and gospel included. I guess I would say they are a country band that rocks and sings gospel from the heart.

Thanks Marty, today we’re going to hear an acoustic quartet play an Elton John song at the Arkansas Roots Festival.
When I heard the Apple, Rounds, Cobb, and Hees band playing at the Arkansas Roots Festival they were so relaxed and their delivery was so smooth it was like hearing some musicians playing out on the back porch.
They sounded great, but it wasn’t until I heard the recordings that I realized how good they really play.
Every part well played, every note in the right place, vocals that tell the story, harmonies always spot on, all blending together in a balanced sound.
It just don’t get no better than this.
So now, here’s Apple, Rounds, Cobb, and Hees singing the Elton John song, “Daniel”, recorded at the Arkansas Roots Festival on April 8, 2017.

DJ Hairy Larry Presents John Shepherd Playing One Eyed Jack
From The Archives Of Something Blue May 7, 2023
Thanks Marty, today we're going to hear a brand new blues rock song recorded in Wynne, Arkansas.
Mr. John B. Shepherd is famous for his live blues guitar shows. I like to say, "I ain't saying John Shepherd is better than anyone else, but there sure ain't nobody else that plays better than him."
John also has a studio in his basement in Wynne, Arkansas. John calls it StudioJS. We recorded some of the tracks there for our Delta Legends album, "Two Woman Blues".
Well, this winter John got to work down in his studio and recorded a new album, "Guitar Soul", that we are planning to release on HairyLarryLand. And from that album we'll be hearing a pre-release version of "One Eyed Jack". Our friend, Michael Riley, played drums on the album but on this song John used Zoom drums built into his multitrack recorder.

BODY OF WORK is an intimate new album of songs from throughout my catalog, revisited and undressed.
It’s been twenty years since I wrote my first good song. Before that, I loved songs from afar, with all the ache and daydream teenage love requires. I was sixteen, sitting on the porch, up early having never gone to sleep. I felt like I had been let into the center of the universe.
