PROCLAMATION In Honor of the Esteemed Northeast Arkansas Gamers Guild
WHEREAS: In the Year Two Thousand and Fifteen, on the first day of February, the Northeast Arkansas Gamers Guild (NEAGG) was nobly established by Sarah Brown and Kier Heyl, siblings of notable repute, whose ardor for the ancient and venerable art of tabletop gaming led them to found a fellowship through the means of a Facebook group, this in response to the lamentable closure of a local emporium of games; and
WHEREAS: By Providence and the fervent dedication of its founders, the Guild did flourish, amassing one hundred valiant members within the span of but one week, thereby revealing the deep yearning of the community for such an assembly. The Guild held its inaugural grand event in April of that same year, in honor of International Tabletop Day, within the hallowed halls of the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library; and
WHEREAS: Since its inception, the Northeast Arkansas Gamers Guild hath grown in renown and in number, now boasting a brotherhood and sisterhood of nearly one thousand and four hundred strong, who gather monthly to partake in games of strategy, chance, and fellowship at the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library; and
WHEREAS: The Guild’s most celebrated occasion, known as NEA Game Fest, hath become a beacon, drawing participants from the far reaches of the realm, including the great cities of Chicago, Illinois, and Houston, Texas. At the most recent convocation in the month of July, over three hundred individuals did assemble, enjoying the contest of over one hundred and fifty games and partaking in the distribution of prizes valued in the thousands; and
WHEREAS: Through its charity and good works, the NEA Game Fest hath raised over forty thousand dollars for the betterment of local causes, with its most bestowing of eleven thousand, two hundred thirty dollars and thirty-one cents, to the Friends of the Craighead County Library, thus exemplifying the Guild’s enduring commitment to the welfare of the community; and
WHEREAS: The Northeast Arkansas Gamers Guild doth extend a warm and inclusive embrace to all, providing a sanctuary where families and individuals may escape the distractions of the modern age and partake in the timeless joy of tabletop gaming, thereby strengthening the bonds of kinship and community within the city of Jonesboro;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Harold Copenhaver, Mayor of the City of Jonesboro, by the powers vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby recognize and extol the virtues and contributions of the Northeast Arkansas Gamers Guild, and proclaim this day, the Tenth of August in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-Four, as NORTHEAST ARKANSAS GAMERS GUILD DAY in the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Jonesboro to be affixed this Tenth Day of August, in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-Four.

It all started because I wanted a pet. All of us younger kids did. But Mom always said that there wasn’t room for any pets cuz there were so many kids. She had a point, I guess. There were nine of us. But then David, my oldest brother, left home when he was only seventeen and a half to join the Peace Corps. Mom cried for three days straight. Dad said it was only because she was going through the Change of Life.
The day after she stopped crying there was a bunny in the living room. No cage, just a bunny. I guess Dad bought him hoping it would cheer Mom up–and it did. She sat on the couch holding the bunny for hours and told us all that we had a new family member: David the bunny. Katherine, my oldest sister, said that Mom named it David out of a sense of displacement or some other big word she liked to use just because she wanted to be a psychologist or a psychiatrist or some kind of person who messes with your head.
